The U.S. Online Bank of a Global Financial Services Institution

The challenge

In 2012, one of the world’s largest international banks wanted to open an online savings bank in the U.S. with a strategy to offer consumers simple, but highly attractive savings products. To react quickly to competitors in a national marketplace, the bank required a content management solution that would bypass the need for programming resources and provide its marketing people direct management of the bank’s content across its digital channels.

Our solution

NRG Edge implemented a Magnolia CMS solution that provided the online savings bank with a Web content management solution that was responsive and adaptive in design. Working in sync with page designs and the UX (user experience) created by the bank’s agency, NRG Edge developed the UI (user interface) and created the custom Magnolia page templates. Additionally, NRG Edge provided a capability to content manage a convenient new feature -- a bank “savings wizard,” which showed customers how to save for a home, college, wedding, or other life event. Further, using Foundation (a modern JavaScript framework) and HTML5, NRG Edge enabled features inherent in Magnolia to provide the bank with a site that works adaptively and responsively with both iOS and Android phone and tablet devices. The project was implemented in four months and within budget. Today, the bank is frequently listed among the Top 5 U.S. online savings banks in the country offering rates 11 times higher than the national average.
